About MOBA '84
"I want to raise up a generation of men in Mfantsipim School who will be brave enough to face the problems of their own continent practically and unselfishly"
- Reverend Bartels
Mfantsipim School was the first secondary school established in the then Gold Coast. It was founded in 1876 in Cape Coast, by Methodist missionaries. (Click to read about the history of Mfantsipim School).
The Alumni of this great institution are called Old Boys and form the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA).
The 1984 group consists of students who graduated from Form 5 in 1984 or from the Sixth Form in 1986. This is our online meeting place. .
Mission Statement
The Association will uphold the ideals upon which Mfantsipim School was founded by fostering a bond between the Old Boys and the School, sustaining the interest of the year group in the school through the maintenance of facilities for contact and channels of communication between the school and the year group, making contributions to the Mfantsipim School Development and Welfare Fund and promoting the production and publication of books, journals and pamphlets of interest to the school and the Old Boys. (From the MOBA '84 Constitution).
The MOBA '84 Infirmary
The tradition of old boyism in Mfantsipim calls for the class celebrating the 20th anniversary of it's graduation to make a major donation to the school. In 2004, under the exemplary leadership of Ace Anan Ankomah, MOBA '84 completed an over $500,000.00 reconstruction of an infirmary to replace the old sick bay. The new 24-bed facility was handed over and dedicated during a ceremony at the school's premises on Friday 12th November, 2004 as part of the school's speech and prize-giving day celebrations.
Finances for this project were mobilized from members of MOBA '84 in Ghana, U.K., the USA, South Africa and Switzerland and various corporate sponsors. At this time, we want to express our thanks to all through whose efforts this project came to be.
The then MOBA '84 president, Ace Anan Ankomah gave an impassioned speech at the dedication ceremony that reflects the ideals of Mfantsipim School and MOBA '84.
